White-spotted sawyer beetle (Monochamus scutellatus), also known as a spruce bug, spruce sawyer, or white-spotted sawyer, is a species of common-wood-boring beetle of the family Cerambycidae. There are two recognized subspecies of this beetle, Monochamus scutellatus scutellatus and Monochamus scutellatus oregonensis. Beetles of the genus Monochamus have a wide range of habitats across the world. These species are called sawyers or sawyer beetles. They are named so because sawyer beetle larvae bore into dying trees, particularly coniferous specimens like pine trees....

Four Labrador retriever puppies at a Texas rescue who lost their mother shortly after their birth have found warmth—and milk!—in an unlikely place. The Antillean nighthawk is a nightjar bird found in a range of places across the North and South American continents. Previously considered conspecific with the common nighthawk, the Antillean nighthawk bird breeds in places like southern Florida, the Florida Keys, the Bahamas, and the Lesser & Greater Antilles. This species of bird is highly migratory and is found in various Caribbean Islands and Puerto Rico. Antillean nighthawks like to live in open and semi-open arid areas as well as pastures, fields, savannas, farmlands, and towns....

Australian ghostsharks (Callorhinchus milii) often known as elephant fish are a distant relative of sharks and rays. It is often misspelled as ‘Callorhynchus milii’ in many cases. This cartilaginous marine fish species, belonging to the family Callorhinchidae, is found in southern Australia and New Zealand. Their name was first explained by Bory de Saint-Vincent, in 1823. The Callorhinchus genus, species Milli, is derived from the Greek word ‘kalo’, meaning ‘beautiful’, and ‘rhyngchos’, meaning ‘snout’....

The black horse-fly (Tabanus atratus) is a species of the biting genus of housefly Tabanus and family Tabanidae. The generic name Tabanus was first ever recorded by Pliny the Younger. This fly belongs to the Tabanini tribe and subfamily Tabanidae. Tabanini consists of 220 officially describe species of horse and deer flies. There are seven genera under this tribe. The subfamily Tabaninae has over 3000 described horse-fly species. These flies of Tabaninae lack spurs on the tips of hind tibiae and ocelli....
