Classification of Prejanopterus puts it into the phylum Chordata and class Pterosauria. It was the first genus of pterosaur from the Lower Cretaceous period of Spain. The generic name is obtained from the village of Préjano and latinised Greek ‘Pteron’ denoting ‘wing’.A fascinating fact about the Prejanopterus is that the lower jaw is linear, but the upper jaw bends to the top and apart from the lower jaw. The long slender snout with extensively gapped teeth is indicative of the fact that Prejanopterus may have used it to explore narrow, dense spaces for small animals or even scavenged carcasses. The specimens, thus, suggest that Prejanopterus were very rare pterosaurs of that era. Researchers have found several parts of the skull and the postcrania, which they assigned to the Prejanopterus, mostly from the pelvis, the wings, and the hindlimbs. Arm bone or vertebral column are still missing. Very few pterosaurs are known from Spain, but Prejanopterus is one of the finer conserved specimens.
