This is seen to be the case for the first king of Copan. He was a foreigner who came to Copan. The circumstances of his arrival are still shrouded in mystery, and his reasons for coming to this land are unknown. He is thought to have been made a king after marrying a prominent local individual. In any case, K’inich Yax K’uk Mo’ is the first recorded king of Copan.The city center, the Acropolis, saw the construction of different structures increase rapidly as the first king took his seat. He passed away sometime between the age of 55-70 years old, as is understood by isotope tests. His tomb was built beneath what archaeologists dubbed ’temple 16’ of the Acropolis. Near to his tomb was the tomb of his wife, who was presumed to be the driving force behind K’inich Yax K’uk Mo’ being crowned as the king.
