The Venaticosuchus rusconii is a genus that was discovered in the Ischigualasto Formation in Argentina and La Rioja. It is said to have been deposited almost 230 million years ago. The general anatomy of the fossil recovered suggests that it is similar to two different species of the Ornithosuchids. The lower jaw suggested that it also had several unique traits. The jaw musculature of the animal suggested that even though it had carnivorous diets, its teeth and jaw biomechanics were very similar to the juvenile aetosaurs, herbivores.According to a study by Von Baczko of the geological society on the jaw biomechanics of the species, there were interesting results in regard to the jaw of the species and modern reptiles.

The study suggested that the Venaticosuchus had skulls taller than modern crocodiles that created longer moment arms, which gave them the power to use more force.
